The Austro-Italian War of 1848-49 - The war against Austrian domination in Italy, which began in the conditions of the European revolution of 1848. Carl Albert - King of the Sardinian Kingdom (1831-49) wanted to unite Italy under the hegemony of Piedmont and provoked an uprising in the Italian lands against the Austrians.

After the Austrians were expelled from Lombardy and Venice, Carl Albert declared war on Austria. It was joined by the Papal States and the Kingdom of both Sicilies. The Piedmontese army (60,000 men) struck a blow towards Verona. The Austrians had a number of successful counter-offenses and Karl was forced to sign a truce by which Lombardy again moved to Austria, and Sardinia was to pay Austria an indemnity of 65 million francs. Carl Albert unilaterally broke the truce, but the Piedmontese army (80,000 soldiers) was poorly prepared and suffered a crushing defeat.
On the officer a long-dark navy uniform with white cuffs and a collar. Epaulets and buttons are silver. Trousers with a white lamp are tucked into high boots. On a white belt is a gold plated badge with a silver cross. The red shako is trimmed on the bottom edge with black leather, and on the upper side - with silver galloon. Pettica and round pompom are silver, cockade green-white-red. A red cloth cloth rolls over his left shoulder, and a blue officer's scarf and brushes across his right shoulder. A sword with a gilded hilt in black sheath.
