The margins of Brandenburg arose from Slavic lands conquered by the German feudal lords and was the center of German colonization in the east of Central Europe. On the shield of the knight, the family coat of arms of the surname von Bredow: in a silver (white) field a red assault ladder with gold (yellow) crossbeams. The emblem symbolizes the ascent of the Bred family to the higher nobility of Brandenburg.
Protective armament of the knight consists of long armored mail, chain mail hood with a characteristic square cape and chain mail stockings. Legs are additionally protected by steel leggings with knee pads. The so-called reinforced cotta or lamellar surko is a kind of armor consisting of several rows of steel plates, fixed overlapping by means of rivets on the inside of the supporting fabric or leather backing. This armor has a tailoring characteristic for the second half of the 13th century - it is worn over the head and fastened on the back with the help of straps with buckles. The fighting headpiece is a large potted helmet (topfhelm), which is the main helmet of knightly cavalry. Ornaments (combs) on helmets were popular in Germany and in the 13th century were worn not only in tournaments, but also in combat. A white ibex with a sticking out red tongue, golden horns and hoofs was the decoration of the name Bredov.
In addition to the usual sword hanging on the belt, in the hand of the knight a large two-handed sword is a bastard. The blow was inflicted with such a sword, holding with both hands, and drove suspended to the saddle.
