Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611) is a famous commander and one of the most famous warriors of Japanese history. He was born in the family of a simple blacksmith and in his childhood was nicknamed Toranosuke ("Young Tiger"). He was brought up with Toyotomi Hideyoshi, because their mothers were relatives. Kato Kiyomasa served him all his life and was one of the approximate generals Toyotomi Hideyoshi, when he rose to become the feudal ruler of Japan. In 1583 Kiyomasa became one of the "Seven copies of Shizugatake", showing courage in the battle of the same name. In 1585, he took possession of the province of Higo and Kumamoto Castle. In 1592-98, during two military incursions into Korea, he commanded one of the samurai armies. Distinguished when storming fortress cities and defending the seized territory. Called the Koreans "warrior-devil," Kato Kiyomasa was the first Japanese military commander, reaching to China. In 1600 during the famous battle of Sekigahara he fought on the island of Kyushu on the side of the third feudal unifier of Japan Tokugawa Ieyasu. Later he moved to the side of the son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi - Hideyori and contributed to the conclusion of a ten-year truce between him and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Kato Kiyomasa was an active supporter of the Buddhist sect Nitiren. His big standard in the form of an ancient hut of the jishi was a white cloth with the motto of this sect: "Namu Moeho Renge kyo" ("Glory to the Lotus of the Divine Law"). Another banner with the same motto was half black. The small standard (co-mindless dzisi) consisted of a flag-noori in the form of a white cloth with a monk "blue eye of a snake", crowned with a fan of white paper feathers on a gilded ring. As a personal sashimono, a white flag with a single serrated edge was used. Family mon ring.
Kato Kiyomasa is dressed in a richly ornamented mantle of jimbaori and armor with a blue lacing, covered with silvery varnish. Individual protection elements are covered with black lacquer. On his head is his famous silver helmet in the form of a court cap (ebosi-nari-kabuto) with images on the sides of a red solar circle. The visor, on the back and half-mask is black. A cheerful ornament in the form of a black disk with gold Buddhist sayings. The saihai - commanding staff in the form of a lacquered wand with a paper brush - will be shut up for the belt.
