Berserkers called Viking warriors prone to fits of madness combat. Before the battle berserkers brought himself into a rage: shouting obscenities, growled and shook the weapon. In the battle differed violently fearlessness and insensitivity to pain. They were believed to have supernatural powers, which gave them the supreme Norse god Odin.
Berserkers are not recognized shield and armor, fought naked to the waist, putting on a wolf or bear skins. In one of the sagas is described how they rushed into battle without chain mail and fought like mad dogs and wolves, as compared with the power of bulls and bears. With an animal roar, they killed people, and neither fire nor iron could not hit them. It was called Berserker Rage. These warriors willing to take in the personal guard of the king (of King), which consisted of 12 people. Berserkers has always fought in the front row on the land and on the sea located in the bow of the ship and in the middle, under the royal banner.
With the spread of Christianity in Scandinavia the pagan cult of the god Odin stepped back in time to the glory of Berserkers sunset.
