EK Castings A116 - Legionnaire of the 2nd legion of Augustus. Rome, 1st century AD
Before throwing propellant spears and launching an attack, the legionaries issued a battle cry, which was to strengthen the spirit of the soldiers and frighten the enemy. After casting the pilums, the front row stripped swords and ran attacking the enemy formation, which suffered the first losses and did not have time to restore the battle formation. In battle, the legionary tried to overthrow the enemy with a shield and strike with a sword. While the soldiers of the first line fought, the legionaries of the rear ranks thundered with their weapons at the edge of the shields, threw the piluses and shouted support to the fighting comrades. Soldiers of the second and third rows occupied the places of the killed first-legionnaires. After the battle all the dead Romans had to be buried. To leave the Roman soldiers without burial was considered a disgrace.
The Legion of Augustus II was formed in 43 BC. Octavian. The symbol of the legion was Capricorn.
