Retiarius (retiarius, rete - Net) - type of gladiator weapons which consisted of a trident (fustsina), dagger (Pugio) and net. The left hand was protected by a fabric Quilted Bracers (Manica) and Bronze Shoulders (gallery). Retiarius opponent was heavily armed secutor. Couple Retiarius - secutor portrayed in the arena battle fisherman and fish.

Roman Gladiators became slaves, prisoners of war, criminals and volunteers. Slaves of the Roman Law considered the thing, not the people. Prisoners of war were also a commodity, and especially valued for their ability to use arms. Convicted criminals as punishment sent to the school of gladiators or directly into the arena.
