At the end of the Heian period (794 - 1185), state power in Japan was in utter decay. The Imperial Court was swallowed up by internal intrigues. Large provincial feudal lords (daimyo) refused to pay taxes and created their own armies capable of coping with government forces. In this turbulent time, two family clans are nominated - Tyra and Minamoto. In 1180 - 85 years. they are waging a brutal war for power among themselves. Finally, the Minamoto clan gained complete victory and in 1192 Minamoto Yoritomo became the first unremovable shogun. The Shogun's title is now inherited, and the emperors become puppets in his hands.

In the 10th century there appeared classic Japanese "big armor" about-yoy. They were a cumbersome lamellar structure designed for a mounted warrior. Elements of armor consisted of small metal lacquered plates, connected in horizontal rows with leather or silk colored cords.
The main weapon of the samurai was a large bow (yumi) and a sword (tati). The long Tati sword was thin, slightly curved, with a short handle. He was hung to the belt with a blade down. Sheaths could be worn by a sheath of bear, jaguar or tiger skin. As a second sword, they wore a short sword without a guard (kosi-gatan), which was tucked into the belt, passing the sheath through a ring with a spare string. Also samurai could wear daggers aiguti and yoroi dosi ("armor piercer"), used to finish off the enemy or for the hara-kiri rite.
